I love it when a book surprises me, and this book did exactly that.I have always found Holly Blacks work some what average but this book is anything but. I guess I was expecting a run of the mill YA Paranormal with a touch of romance but I would actually describe White Cat as Urban Fantasy.Cassel the main character is such a breath of fresh air. In a Young Adult readers landscape where even the bad boy are severely water down, Cassel has some real grit. But he still manages to retain his likability and "con artists" charm. This combined with the magical yet somehow very realistic underground/mobster setting and a plot that leaves you guessing made White cat a really good read.
