The Baron's Betrothal: An On-Again, Off-Again, On-Again Regency Romance (Horsemen of the Apocalypse #2)
Miranda Davis
Outpost - Ann Aguirre Outpost start a few week after Enclave ended and we find Deuce, Fade and the rest of the crew living in Salvation and trying to fit in with a slightly more conventional post apocalyptic society. In her former life Deuce is considered an adult and a skilled Huntress but in Salvation she is an unfeminine, uneducated child. But while Deuce if fighting for her place in this new society and for her relationship with Fade we soon realize that the name of their new home is a little miss leading. Because the Freaks have gotten smarter (scarily so) and they are coming for Salvation...Just like with the first book, Outpost sucked me in from the very first page. As a narrator Deuce is great. She is a trained killer living in a strange new land, her descriptions are short, sharp and to the point and unlike some YA narrators she does not go on for paragraphs about peoples looks or what they are wearing. This keeps the pace of the book rushing along! Outpost is plot and character based and sometimes quite horrifying. There is no shortage of epic fight scenes and the body count is high. But there is also a fair amount of time spent on the moral ambiguity of the societies/cultures that each of the main characters were raised in. With out giving anything away, let just say in the first book there was quite a bit of outrage over some of the thing certain characters chose/were forced to do. And these issues are addressed. This book has romance, introspection, some serious ass kicking, and genuinely terrifying mutant zombie freaks. It wasn't quite as good as the first one but very close and every time I tried to put it down I would find myself turning the next page and being sucked right in until it was 2am and the book was finished.I can't wait for the next one!
